Commuting
With car from the Pearl Cottage it only takes 35 min into Stockholm, 10 min to Vaxholm, and 55 min to the airport Arlanda.
When you go into Stockholm to visit sights, we recommend you to commute so you don't have to spend time with finding a car park.
The best way to experience the way into Stockholm is to take the boat from Vaxholm or the more nearby (from the Pearl Cottage) jetty Fredriksberg. The trip takes 1 hour and is breathtaking regardless of the season and weather.
If you go by car to the nearby islands Rindö and Värmdö, you go with the "road-ferry".
We guide you how to commute below.
In 2007, Stockholm's inner city became the first area in Sweden where congestion tax is levied on cars passing in and out during certain times.
The price is less when you park on the street compared to a parking house. Use the app "EasyPark" on most places, and some places the app "Aimo". Only e-parking everywhere.
The island Djurgården is closed to car traffic from late April–September during weekends and public holidays at 10 am to 5 pm. Regardless, it’s difficult to to find parking places on the island (at the Art Galleries the parking gets easier).
In the summer, parking spaces can sometimes be scarce in the central parts of Vaxholm. Click here to find some of the parking places.
For 12 hours stay, you’ve a good parking place next to the grocery store ICA Vaxholm. It’s the same place as we recommend if you take the commuting boat into Stockholm. If you need to park longer, park your car at Myrholmen (Blynäsviken Boat Club) where the municipality organizes summer parking. To find these places, click here.
By bus/metro/boat, you get to Stockholm in 1 hour (add 30 min for bus and boat in combination). The town Vaxholm is 20 min away by bus. The bus stop is 10 min away by walking from the Cottage (next to the grocery store ICA Resarö).
Use the App "Res i Sthlm" to select the journeys to/from Stockholm by bus/metro/tram. You see all the lines on the map here. How to find your specific journey in the App, press here.
There's a tram in Stockholm from the stop "T-Centralen" to the island Djurgården. Some of the wagons are a living cultural heritage (the Djurgårdslinjen number 7N, see timetable here).
You can use your credit card on the bus/metro/tram. Or buy a commuting card at the small shops "Pressbyrån" that you find one in Vaxholm and on many places in Stockholm (close to the metro). By this card you'll get a better price if you commute for a longer period. No cash when commuting.
