Excursions

This page is not ready yet, but we list some excursions for you below so you can find more by yourself until we're ready.

Drottningholm Palace is on UNESCO's World Heritage list since 1991. It's the most well-preserved royal castle built in the 1600s in Sweden and at the same time is representative of all European architecture for the period. Make a day trip and experience a historic milieu of the highest international standard. Do include the exotic Chinese Pavilion pleasure palace, the palace theatre, and the magnificent palace gardens.

Uppsala is one of Sweden’s oldest cities. It was known as Östra Aros up until the 13th century, when the name Uppsala took over. Today, Uppsala is one of Sweden’s four major cities and is world renowned for its universities, its magnificent cathedral, and the legacy of Carl Linnaeus (visit his summer house). Look at the Sweden's most precious book at the university library and the museum Gustavianum. Visit the King's hills.

Skoklosters castle (mid 17th century) is one of the world’s best preserved baroque castles, located on the Sko Peninsula beside Lake Mälaren. Also, visit the charming town Sigtuna which is located in the same direction.

Östra Lagnö

By car you can come to the outer archipelago. It's a wonderful excursion and you find more about it by pressing on the photo. Do visit the Wira Bruk on your way.

The Viking Tour

If you're interested in Vikings, there is plentiful to see. Visit the King's hills, outside the town Uppsala, from the period just before the Viking age if you've time. Go to Jarlabankes bro, in the small village Täby Kyrkby, very close to the Metz' Cottage. Visit the church here, it's sligtly younger but have beautiful, unique paintings in the ceiling and a rune stone in the wall outside. You can also visit Sweden's first town Birka.

The World Heritage Skogskyrkogården

Experience the world famous woodland cemetery Skogskyrkogården (Stockholm South Cemetery). It was created between 1915 and 1940 by two Swedish architects – one world famous – who contributed to the Nordic Classicism and functionalism. Their mission was to create a site about life and death. This masterpieces as a site was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.
