Liza Elmqvist in the Market Hall
It started in the early 1920s. At a market square at stream at the Baltic Sea (Strömmen) stood the fisherman's daughter Lisa Elmqvist, surrounded by a rapidly growing number of customers. Her fish, shellfish and cooking skills were of such dimensions that she quickly ended up where her ability came into its own – in the posh Östermalm's Market Hall.
Today, the 4th generation of the Elmqvist family continues to work in the same place. Here you buy, or are served, the absolute best of fresh fish and seafood – also as ready-made dishes and own delicacies. A well-stocked wine bar is also not lacking.
Restaurants at the Royal Opera
On the ground floor, the restaurant Operakällaren (the Opera Cellar) serves international haute cuisine ranked with one star in Guide Michelin. In the other end of the building, you find Bakfickan (the Hip Pocket), a small and intimate counter restaurant that specializes in traditional Swedish quality cooking. Between the restaurants and next to Café Opera (a night club), there is another restaurant: Operabaren. Its interior is a mixture of Art Nouveau style and a gentlemen's club. Operabaren offers the same high-quality food as Operakällaren, but focuses on traditional Swedish cuisine
