Pop & Rock Music

Stockholm Live
The company Stockholm Live (owned by ASM Global) operates the city's largest arenas: Avicii Arena, Friends Arena, Tele2 Arena, Annexet and Hovet. Also, the historic and smaller Södra Teatern (the Theater of the South) is this “stable of arenas”. Not only rock and pop concerts are held in these arenas. Each arena has its own website where you can book tickets. Also, the company “Live Nation” provides a variety of performances with a program on its website.
The Avicii Arena (previous the Globe) from 1989 was the largest spherical building on Earth until 2023 when the Sphere in Nevada passed its size. You can go up on it in the attraction SkyView that consists of two specially designed glass gondolas. Here, you get a panoramic view of the whole of Stockholm at a height of 85 meters. Though, you can also get a panoramic view from the 106-metre-high tower of the City Hall (“Day 1 in Stockholm”).

Södra Teatern (the Theatre of the South)
The beautiful Södra Teatern was designed by Johan Fredrik Åbom (he also built Berns salonger mentioned in “Some restaurants”) and inaugurated 1859. This place has been an inn and entertainment venue since the 16th century.
Today, the theatre houses stage performances, live performances, clubs, food, and drink under one roof. During the summer months, its well worth to take a drink and have a meal at its terrace (Mosebacketerassen) with a fantastic view over Stockholm. The terrace has a small outdoor arena for music performances.
Why the name of the terrace, as well as the small square next to the theatre, became Mosebacke goes back to 1734 when the hill (backe in Swedish) was mentioned as Mosis Backe. This name, in turn, comes from Mosis mill which was located on this hill in the 17th century. The mill was owned by Johan Hansson Hök who probably named it after his son-in-law Moses Israelsson.

Cirkus
The wonderful Cirkus, located in the Royal Djurgården district of Stockholm, was inaugurated in 1892 (the architect Ernst Haegglund) to house the many prominent circus companies of the times. On the site there used to be an older circus building from the early 19th century that burned down. In the beginning of the 1930s, the building was adapted for theatre performances.
Over the years, Cirkus became an arena for all types of activities, including concerts, congresses, TV productions, and above all for theatre, musicals, and shows. It has housed world stars such as Nick Cave, Simon & Garfunkel, and Iggy Pop as well as the musicals Chess and Mamma Mia.
Today, Cirkus is Northern Europe's largest private theatre owned by the company Pop House (which also owns the ABBA museum and has Björn Ulveaus as one of its owners). Though, coming here for music performances it still feels intimate.
For each show at Cirkus there are a limited number of show menu tickets where a dinner in the restaurant, with its beautiful Swiss veranda, is included in the ticket price (not à la carte).

Grönan Live at Gröna Lund
Gröna Lund is open to the public from the end of April to the end of September. The park has about thirty rides, including seven roller coasters, haunted houses, several games, and wheels of fortune, fast-food as well as restaurants and bars. There are also two stages and a dance floor.
Annually, plenty of concerts are held on the main stage with both well-known national and international entertainers.
You buy an entrance ticket to the park and the concert in the evening is included. When a "super-star" performs, you have to come in the (late) afternoon before the “audience limit” is reached. While you waiting for the concert to sart, use some of the park's attractions. If you want to see several concerts, a card for the entire season might be cheaper.
